1890 Founded in Maleras, Sweden, by Gustav Holmqvist 1916 A new glassworks was built Company Name AB Stromsborgs Glassworks 1917 The Glassworks burnt down at the beginning of the year, employees started to rebuild the factory, finishing and starting production again in November. 1922 They went bankrupt due to the deep depression of 1921 to 1922 1924 Production started once again, now with a Master Glassblower from Orrefors, Gustav Rosander, as head of the company. The Glassworks was now half owned by the employees and renamed AB Maleras Glassworks 1960 to 1975 This was a difficult time for the whole glass industry resulting in 5 glassworks companies, including Maleras, merging to form Krona-bruken AB in 1975 1977 Krona ruken AB went bankrupt. Maleras Glassworks was then bought by Kosta Boda 1981 Kosta Boda intended on closing down Maleras Glassworks so 104 Maleras inhabitants invested 1000SEK to save the company. AB Maleras Glassworks became an employee owned company 1981 onwards Since 1981 the company has been thriving, gathering extremely skilful and capable people around them and increasing the employee count from 15 to 50. The determination of Maleras Glassworks have produced results which have exceeded all expectations and easily planted the company as the most successful in Swedish Glass history.
